| students' work assignment(s) | Description The Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) Office of Aviation Policy and Plans (APO) will offer an unpaid library science internship during the summer of 2008. This opportunity is designed to provide work experience within the federal government for students pursuing a library science career. A senior FAA librarian will supervise the intern. The manager of the Systems and Policy Analysis Division (APO-200) will arrange projects and other work responsibilities with the approval of the supervising librarian. The interns primary responsibility will be to assist in the development of a system to catalogue files within APOs extensive electronic library. The ultimate goal of this activity is to improve APOs ability to research issues and document past decisions. APO is attempting to integrate search software, which includes meta tags and version controls. The intern will play a key role during the implementation stage of this software. Assignments may include evaluating the effectiveness of this technology, suggesting changes, and developing guidelines for proper usee.g. optimizing meta tags for the needs of a particular office. No direct experience is necessary in this area, but a basic knowledge of one or more of the following is preferred: metadata, metatagging, or electronic file search software.
