Job Description:
Bucknell University seeks to hire a Metadata Librarian who will manage and coordinate activities related to metadata production for Bucknell’s growing digital collections.

S/he is responsible for the intellectual access to Bucknell’s digital collections, ensuring that users are able to find and retrieve materials, making recommendations for improving the intellectual access to digital objects, and implementing such changes. This individual will be responsible for metadata and associated authority control, quality control, knowledge of changing metadata standards, and other duties associated with the creation and maintenance of data related to both digital and print materials. While the primary focus of the work will be working with metadata for digital objects, this individual will also serve as a resident authority on traditional cataloging standards and emerging trends related to the intellectual access and organization of information.

The Metadata Librarian is part of Library and Information Technology’s Digital Initiatives Group and will report to the Digital Initiatives Group Leader. S/he will work closely with members of the Digital Initiatives Group, Special Collections/University Archives, Technical Services, and Research Services.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Maintaining knowledge of national and international descriptive, technical, and administrative metadata standards. Interpreting and adapting those standards for local needs.
- Selecting the appropriate metadata scheme for digital projects.
- Coordinating the creation of metadata and long-term maintenance of data for projects. Working with faculty, staff, students, and administrators to establish and implement best practices for individual collections.
- Establishing workflows for metadata projects. Coordinating metadata work assigned to other staff and student workers. Overseeing training on related software and tasks.
- Experimenting with promising new metadata/cataloging tools or technologies. Developing strategies for integrating new technologies and services into the existing framework.
- Seeking to create more efficient workflows for data creation, manipulation, clean-up and storage. Exploring, recommending, and implementing processes to automate work.
- Participating in training campus users on digital object storage, presentation, and cataloging software. Tools currently in use include Fedora, Luna Insight, ARTstor, ImageDB (a locally-developed image database), DSpace, and Archivists’ Toolkit.
- Anticipating future trends in an evolving digital environment. Maintaining current awareness of national and international developments affecting metadata, cataloging, and information retrieval. Attending professional meetings and workshops to monitor changes in metadata standards and practices.

Secondary responsibilities include:
- Representing the Digital Initiatives Group, Library and Information Technology, and Bucknell University by serving on university-wide, departmental, and consortial committees as appropriate.
- Working with other members of the Digital Initiatives Group to publicize existing digital collections, solicit new materials, and encourage faculty integration of digital materials into courses.
- Maintaining knowledge of national and international cataloging standards and best practices. Providing support for cataloging books and electronic resources. Staying abreast of changes in traditional cataloging (i.e., the shift from MARC/AACR2 to RDA).
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science is required.
- Knowledge of existing and developing metadata schemas, standards, and protocols such as Dublin Core, VRA Core, LOM, MODS, METS, CCO, and OAI-PMH; traditional cataloging rules and standards including MARC and AACR2; subject thesauri such as LCSH, ULAN, AAT, TGN, and MeSH; emerging standards such as RDA are required.
- Ability to adapt to changing digital technologies and metadata standards is required.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications, spreadsheets, databases, integrated library systems, the Internet, as well as traditional library resources is required.
- The ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
- The ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and in teams is required.

ENGLISH LIBRARIAN
UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LIBRARIES

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for user education, collection development, and reference service, while serving as liaison to the English Department. Working in a dynamic, team-based, collaborative environment, major responsibilities of the liaison assignment include the development of the Libraries’ print and electronic collections, including Web resources, in the assigned subject area of English; and the provision of instruction (both online and in-person) to students enrolled in the English curriculum. Typical reference duties include the provision of general reference service at a busy centralized service desk, including some evenings and weekends, as well as offering subject-specific consultations. This position will be report to the Director of Information Literacy and Instruction.

The University of Houston recently has adopted a Quality Enhancement Plan that places greater emphasis on undergraduate research. One result of this new endeavor is that librarians are expected to collaborate with faculty where appropriate in order to integrate information literacy directly into course content. A variety of instructional modalities will be used, e.g., WebCT, online tutorials, subject portals, in-class lectures and demonstrations.

The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC) invites applications for the position of Instruction Librarian. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill this position, which is primarily responsible for providing bibliographic instruction to the various schools at UNTHSC. Of special note, the instruction librarian serves as course director for the medical school's required informatics class.

Located in Fort Worth, Texas, UNTHSC is a growing institution comprising the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Health Professions, and Physician Assistant Studies Program. Position Duties:
Plans, teaches, and evaluates classes covering a wide range of biomedical and health care informatics topics. Directs the medical informatics course required for first year medical students. Works with other library personnel to integrate web-based tools and technology into UNTHSC's instructional efforts. Meets with appropriate instruction committees in the various schools of UNTHSC in order to further the integration of informatics into the schools' curricula. Salary and Benefits: The salary is commensurate with experience. UNTHSC librarians hold non-tenure track faculty appointments in the university's Medical Education Department and receive the standard State of Texas higher education employee benefits package including fully paid health insurance for the employee. Department Description:
The Mandeville Special Collections Library (MSCL) is a non-circulating collection of 250,000 books and 18 million manuscripts, Major strengths of the collection include pre-1850 voyages of exploration and discovery to the Pacific; the Spanish Civil War; experimental American poetry; the history and culture of California and the American Southwest; Baja California; Melanesian anthropology; and the history of twentieth century science. Responsibilities of the Position:
Reporting to the Director of the Mandeville Special Collections Library, the MSCL Reference & Instruction Coordinator has lead responsibility for planning & implementing reference & instructional services for MSCL. The Coordinator will be expected to develop in-depth knowledge of MSCL holdings in order to provide high-quality and specialized reference & instructional services, based on these materials, to in-person, telephone, and email inquiries.
• Provides timely and quality reference service to in-person, mail, and email inquiries.
• Coordinates instructional activities for other members of MSCL public services team and takes leadership in providing in-house training for all MSCL reference providers.
• Creates outreach activities to known and potential campus users of MSCL materials.
• Establishes effective liaisons with UCSD faculty & works with them to design class presentations & assignments using MSCL materials and/or their digital surrogates.
• Makes presentations about MSCL materials to UCSD classes & to a variety of scholarly and community groups. Interprets and promotes the use of MSCL holdings to the campus, scholarly, and community groups through oral presentations, written papers, and digital initiatives.
• Participates in the creation & development of MSCL’s digital presence, helping to develop content for new websites of MSCL materials for the UCSD Digital Library, based on use, need, and fragility.
• Contributes to MSCL’s real and virtual exhibitions.
• Oversees interlibrary loan requests from MSCL materials, both from other UC’s and non-UC institutions.
• Participates in the creation & development of MSCL priorities, policies, procedures, and goals, especially as they relate to reference, instruction, and other public service programs. Serves on appropriate library-wide, campus-wide, and/or system-wide committees.
• Supervises 1 FTE paraprofessional.
• May participate in MSCL’s collection development program, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
• Professional degree from a library school or other appropriate degree or equivalent experience in one or more fields relevant to library services.
• Demonstrated knowledge of & experience with rare books, manuscripts, and other special collections materials, the custodial & curatorial issues associated with them, & the access tools for them.

• Works with MSCL director and University Archivist to establish processing priorities, specificity, and appropriate level of processing for newly-acquired and backlog materials, and to determine appropriate levels of processing for groups of materials. Develops & supervises processing plan for each collection.
• Establishes policy standards for the arrangement & description of mss/archival collections, including the unit’s processing manual and guidelines for finding aids structure.
• Follows national standards for archival description such as Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Online Archive California Best Practices for Encoded Archival Description, Version 2.0, and California Digital Library Guidelines for Digital Objects, Version 2.0.

Job Summary: Responsible for the daily operations and supervision of all phases of public services and resources designed to interest adults and children.

Summer Metadata Assistants / Interns

Join a team of metadata specialists and assistants (including other library school students) to help launch an internal document management system within a successful, rapidly growing software company. You'll get first-hand experience with emerging portal and Internet technologies as you help transition documents from various internal resources to structured and managed intranet information systems.

You will spend two thirds of your time on metadata for airline industry and computer science documents. You will choose what projects you work on for one third of your time. These projects can include: search engine maintenance, user instruction, internal marketing, collection development, original cataloging, or copy cataloging. For the technologically savvy applicant, there are opportunities to customize or enhance our tools, including an open source ILS and document management system.

Responsibilities:
