UNT President Gretchen Bataille elected to ACE Board of Directors

DENTON (UNT), Texas -- University of North Texas President Gretchen M. Bataille was elected to the board of directors of the American Council on Education at ACE's 89th Annual Meeting on Feb. 13 in Washington, D.C.

Founded in 1918, ACE is nationally acknowledged as the nation's unifying voice for higher education. Through its extensive advocacy, research and program initiatives, ACE seeks to influence public policy as a consensus leader on key issues relating to higher education.

ACE's strategic priorities involve helping colleges and universities anticipate and address current and future educational challenges. Among its foremost goals is a commitment to "be the most visible and influential higher education organization in public policy deliberations."

Bataille was one of nine new members (college and university presidents and chancellors) elected to the ACE Board of Directors at the February meeting that also named the board's officers for 2007. She is currently the only representative from a Texas college or university on the board.

Bataille also serves on the executive committee of the Council of Public University Presidents and Chancellors in Texas.

Bataille became UNT's 14th president in August after serving as the senior vice president for academic affairs at the 16-campus University of North Carolina.

Among her highest priorities are goals to develop new partnerships that will help carry the university into the future and lead UNT's efforts to emerge as a national and international presence in higher education.
