Grammy-winning trombonist performs with One O’Clock Lab Band Nov. 24

The event takes place at 8 p.m. Nov. 24 (Tuesday) in Winspear Performance Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, located along the north side of Interstate 35E at North Texas Boulevard. The One O'Clock Lab Band, under the direction of Steve Wiest, will perform works by students, faculty members and alumni, as well as the Grammy-nominated piece Values by former One O'Clock Lab Band Director Neil Slater. After intermission, Mosca will join the band with new music commissioned for the event, as well as classics from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.
About John Mosca
Mosca has played with the legendary Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, formerly the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, for more than 30 years. The group recently earned a Grammy for best large jazz ensemble album for Monday Night Live at the Village Vanguard and also earned a Grammy in 2004 for best arrangements for jazz orchestra. A graduate of Juilliard, Mosca has served on the faculty at the Manhattan School of Music, The New England Conservatory and The University of Connecticut, among others. He has also appeared in the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band.
About the One O'Clock Lab Band
The Grammy-nominated One O'Clock Lab Band, UNT's premier jazz ensemble, has performed and toured throughout the world -- including Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Thailand and The Netherlands. The band performs under the direction of Steve Wiest, a Grammy-nominated arranger and associate professor of music. The UNT jazz program -- the first of its kind in the nation -- is housed within the College of Music, one of the largest and most comprehensive music schools in the nation.

Tickets are also on sale now for the Feb. 25 concert featuring jazz pianist and composer Lyle Mays, a former UNT student whose compositions and arrangements are featured on the One O'Clock Lab Band's Grammy-nominated Lab '75 album. Mays will perform with the One O'Clock Lab Band and a small group of faculty members at 8 p.m. Feb. 25 (Thursday) in Winspear Hall at the Murchison Performing Arts Center as the guest artist for the Glenn E.
