System Center offers e-commerce marketing certificate in Dallas

As more and more e-companies are weeded out by the competition, the University of North Texas System Center at Dallas is introducing a new certificate in e-commerce marketing to teach the art of staying power through traditional business strategies. The center is located at 8915 S. Hampton Rd. The certificate consists of four courses or twelve hours of credit, but students can enroll in any of the courses without finishing the certificate. The program will introduce students to the principles of e-commerce marketing, advertising, retailing, distribution, logistics, and business-to-business transactions. "This program is not designed to train technical personnel," said Jhinuk Chowdhury, chair of the UNT Department of Marketing and Logistics. "This is not a certification for programmers. This program is about e-commerce business models, marketing strategies, and acquiring and retaining customers." The first course, Internet Marketing Concepts and Strategies, teaches the competitive advantages of e-commerce in the marketplace. The course reviews strategies and business models for successful Internet marketing for both small and large companies. Classes will meet from 6 to 8:50 p.m. Thursday evenings at the System Center. The other three courses, E-Logistics in Supply Chain Management, E-Commerce Marketing Tools and Applications, and Electronic Retailing Promotion Strategies, will be offered one each semester. Students may complete the certificate program in less than two years. Courses are offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The System Center is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students can attend special registration sessions from 2 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 4, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 13. Information on all the programs at the System Center can be found at www.unt.edu/unt-dallas. The e-commerce certificate program is offered through UNT's Department of Marketing in the College of Business Administration.
