New technology fund to be discussed
DENTON (UNT), -- Texas The Murphy Enterprise Center at the University of North Texas will hold an informational meeting with the North Texas Regional Center for Innovation and Commercialization (RCIC) to discuss the new Texas Emerging Technology Fund. The meeting will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 20 (Friday) in Room 355 of the Business Administration Building, one block west of Welch and Chestnut streets. Representatives from RCIC, the regional agent for the fund, will be available to answer questions. RSVP by calling (940) 565-2848 or e-mail Ackerson@unt.edu. The Texas Legislature established the $200 million technology fund in 2005 to help create jobs and expand the economy by encouraging the development of new technology through partnerships between public and private industries. The funds will be available in fiscal years 2006 and 2007. "This is important because all commercialization proposals must have a university affiliation," said Eileen Resnik, director of the UNT Murphy Enterprise Center. "The opportunity for research dollars is very real, and I know the community will be interested in learning more about the requirements of this program." The UNT Murphy Enterprise Center encourages entrepreneurship by providing students with business counseling, mentoring and training opportunities that help them turn ideas into viable business entities. The center began in 2000 with a $1 million donation from Ken and the late Shirley Murphy, founders and owners of The Mail Box. The North Texas RCIC, as the regional agent for the fund, will make recommendations to the state governing board regarding the fund. The board will make the final decisions.
