How do I report an accident?
For Workers' Compensation Information, please contact Risk Management. For injuries, please contact Becky Vawter, Insurance & Claims Services Manager, at 565-2109 within 24 hours of the incident (becky.vawter@unt.edu).
Where can I find information about chemical toxicity?
Please contact our Environmental Services Manager, Charles Fox, by phone at 565-4429 or by email at foxc@adaf.admin.unt.edu for information on Chemical Toxicity.
Who do I contact in RMS concerning radiation or lasers?
Laser & Radiation Safety Officer Joe Harrison (harrisonj@adaf.admin.unt.edu or 565-3282) should be contacted about Radiation and Laser Safety issues. The policies and practices regarding the licensing, procurement, and use of radioactive materials and sources of ionizing radiation is vested in this department and the Radiation Safety Committee.
Who is responsible for Environmental and/or Industrial Hygiene?
Either Environmental Services Manager Charlie Fox (by phone, 565-4429, or by email, foxc@adaf.admin.unt.edu) or Industrial Hygienist & IAQ Coordinator Paru Nambiar (by phone, 565-4429, or by email, paru@adaf.admin.unt.edu) will be glad to answer or evaluate any of the questions or concerns you may have.
What is the correct procedure for disposal of potentially hazardous materials?
Please use our Hazardous Material Pickup Request Form located through the main (link to form). You may also contact our HazMat Safety Officer, Daniel Leyva-Martinez (leyvad@adaf.admin.unt.edu), or our Environmental Services Manager, Charles Fox (foxc@adaf.admin.unt.edu) for further information.
Note: All biological waste is handled by our department, with two exceptions: Biological (Specimen) Waste and Sharps (metal and glass) Waste, which is handled by the Biology Department.
To whom do I report any campus safety hazards?
Anyone in RMS can take the information about a hazard and give it to the appropriate specialist in our department. Response is usually the same day regarding evaluation of the hazard. Call 565-2109 or email the Environmental Services Manager, Charlie Fox foxc@adaf.admin.unt.edu.
How do I find out about Asbestos Containing Materials?
As of July 1, 1998, Risk Management Services has taken the responsibility of managing the University Asbestos Program. All questions and concerns regarding asbestos in campus buildings may be routed to Matt Moncus. All Maintenance and Custodial personnel are being trained in the 2 Hour Asbestos Awareness all Newly Hired Maintenance and Custodial Personnel must be trained within 60 days of being hired. If you know of anyone who may have the potential in disturbing asbestos containing material, then they too should be trained in the 2 Hour Asbestos Training. Risk Management Services has initiated a Maintenance Permit Program. Any University Department that will be performing any maintenance on any campus building and the maintenance has the potential of disturbing asbestos MUST first go through our office to have a work maintenance permit.
