Basic Instructions
For more instructions, see UNT Notary Application Packet.
Please note: If you are currently commissioned as a notary public, please wait until you are within 90 days of the expiration date of your current commission before submitting a renewal application.
The process for new or renewal of state employee's notary commission without bond is as follows:
- Obtain a Notary Without Bond Application packet from UNT Risk Management Services (RMS).
Packets are available online at http://rms.unt.edu or in the RMS office located at 700 North Texas Blvd. - Complete the Application for Appointment as a Texas Notary Public Without Bond for state employees. Use the name you wish to sign as a notary. It does not have to be your legal name; however, the signature on the application must exactly match the name on line #1 of the application. DO NOT use correction fluid. Applications with any corrections will not be accepted by the Secretary of State's Office and will delay the processing of your commission.
- Read and sign the State Employee Notary Acknowledgement Form.
- Deliver the original completed application, acknowledgement form, and an IDO crediting Account #64100 for $11.00 to the RMS office for processing.
- Call RMS to enroll in the next available Notary Training class and to obtain the State Office of Risk Management's Notary Public Info. for State Employees manual.
- After receipt of your notary commission with the exact expiration date, order your stamp and record book. Your stamp must say "Notary Without Bond". The notary commission is good for 4 years. Refer to Ordering a Notary Commission Stamp for instructions on how to order your stamp.
When any of the following events occur, you must deliver your notary record book and stamp to the RMS office:
- Your notary commission expires
- You leave employment at UNT
- Your notary record book is complete
