Dr. Smith serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation, Social Work and addictions at the University of North Texas. Additionally, he serves as the clinical consultant at Interfaith Coalition of Dallas.

Prior to joining the faculty, he served as a family therapist at Intensive Crisis counseling. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Work and Statistics minor from Florida State University and a Master's Degree in Social Work. He is also a Licensed Social Worker.

Dr. Smith has a long-standing interest in the evaluation of juvenile justice programs, specialized courts, and faith-based organizations. Other research interests include adolescent delinquency, substance abuse, family engagement and family involvement, and measurement development. His work experience includes substance abuse treatment, psychiatric hospital, emergency room, acute care, and individual and family therapy.
