Rehabilitation Graduate Program Page

Description

Our rehabilitation counseling graduate program is the largest in the world with an enrollment in excess of 400 students and a graduation rate of 98%. It is delivered via distance learning and on-campus, and focuses on the diversity not just of students and faculty, but of ideas. Students learn from national and international experts in the field.

Our Rehabilitation Counseling graduate program is nationally accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) through 2007. The curriculum is designed to satisfy the accreditation standards published by CORE.

To make it easier for students to learn about our graduate program, we have prepared a Graduate Student Handbook that explains the program in detail. This handbook also provides you with a history of our department, an indepth description of the program, application procedures, course sequencing recommendations, financial aid, certification by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC), and information for licensure by the Texas Department of State Health Services Professional Licensing & Certification Unit to work as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas.

Courses

Courses in the Rehabilitation Master's program are offered only once per year except for practicum and internship which are offered every semester. Since courses build sequentially on one another, students are advised to follow the course sequence in the Graduate Student Handbook which also shows the semester in which each course in the curriculum is offered.

Practicum & Internships

The Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling requires that students complete a supervised practicum experience upon completion of at least 75% of all core and specialized course work. The practicum requires 100 hours of observation and client contact at an approved field site that offers rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities. The Graduate Student Handbook contains information about application and registration procedures for the practicum. An additional resource, Guidelines for Supervised Field Site Experience in Rehabilitation Counseling is also available and contains specialized information for the student, the practicum agency and the field-site supervisor.

Several publications and forms are available to help you navigate through our program and experience the utmost success in your studies. Many are in the handbooks already linked to in the sections above. We list them here for your convenience.
