Students must have successfully completed SOWK 4700, Child Welfare Theory & Practice, which includes 20 hours of service learning at the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services (TDFPS).

They must attend the Field Orientation Seminar held the semester before they go into the field.

They must be eligible for graduation at the end of their internship semester.

They must complete the application packet which includes an essay.

They must complete interviews with UNT and a pre-employment exam and interview with the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services.

They must pass criminal history, child abuse registry, and driving record checks.

They must provide results of a current (taken within a one (1) year period) Tuberculosis test.

A student must contract with Texas Department of Family & Protective Services for employment upon graduation with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from UNT. Should the student fail to successfully complete the program internship and fulfill the work requirement, they will be required to repay the amount of the stipend on a schedule set by TDFPS.
